Karen Anne's School of Fine Art
Since 1999, Karen Anne Renz has been instructing youth and adults of all ages in the exciting world of fine art. For the beginning artist just starting off, you'll learn all the basics and fundamentals needed to truly learn how to draw and paint. For students who have completed the basic courses, or for the artist who has some art background and wants to sharpen and broaden their skills, Karen Anne's advanced courses will teach you new and exciting techniques to help you master your artistic abilities. Beginning and advanced oil courses are also offered to invite you into the wonderful and very unique world of oil painting. You'll be going home with masterpieces you can be proud of!

So if you're wanting to unleash the artist within, or have a child or grandchild who wants to learn about the fun world of fine art and develop into a young artist, then sign up today! Art courses are offered throughout the year from Karen Anne's School of Fine Art at the Bay Arts Center studio. Most of the courses offered generally range from September to May, with other specialty classes throughout the summer months. Registration is going on now for the next school year. Remember, anyone can enroll!
After taking one of these art courses, you'll be so proud of what you've accomplished that you will want to show it off for everyone to see...and you can do so with our annual art exhibit! An art exhibit is held after each school year for both youth and adults to display their artwork completed throughout the year. This is a huge event where hundreds of people throughout the community will get to witness the amazing artistic talent that exists right here in their backyard!

This course introduces the young student to the fundamentals of art and the techniques artists use to properly sketch, use a color wheel, and sculpt. Students will learn shading and highlighting, pointillism, sgraffito, and more! They will also paint a still-life, landscape, seascape and portrait in various mediums. The course will also teach how to sculpt with clay and paper mache'.
For students who have completed the Youth Basic Arts Course 101. This course will do more intense study of the concepts of right brain drawing and painting while implementing various techniques and textures. Students will imitate the Impressionist Period, paint glass reflections, make a collage painting, and much more! The course will conclude with a clay sculpture of their self portrait.
This course will teach you the basic techniques and skills of oil painting, giving the beginner guidance and encouragement to paint with oil. Students will learn various brush techniques and blending methods while painting required subjects.
Students will continue where they left off from the Youth Beginner's Oil Course and will be encouraged to be creative using additional techniques and textures in oil. They will also learn how to turn their own photographs into paintings by cropping and enhancing with color.
This course will give the experienced painter new ideas to broaden and enliven their art by using larger canvases and a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, collage, gold-leafing, and more.

Whether you feel you have little talent and doubt you could learn, or enjoy drawing but unable to get beyond a child-like level, or if you're already an artist, this course will give you the confidence in your ability and deepen your artistic perception. You will learn the concept of right brain drawing, positive and negative space, lights and shadows, and perception and foreshadowing. We will also explore the beauty of color and the visual impacts of color combinations as we do pastel paintings of flowers, still-life, landscapes, and more!

This course will teach you the basic techniques and skills of oil painting, giving you the guidance and encouragement to paint with oil. We'll discover the ins-and-outs of oil paints and diluents, and learn various brush and blending techniques. You will choose your own subjects, learn how to compose and sketch them on canvas, then create paintings that are uniquely yours!
Prerequisite: Best if completed Adult Basic Arts Course 101
Continuing where you left off in Adult Beginners Oil, you will be encouraged to be creative using additional techniques and textures in oil. You will also learn how to turn your own photographs into paintings by cropping and enhancing with color. We'll continue to sharpen your skills with new ideas to broaden and enliven your art using texture and palette knives, and by imitating the style of the Impressionist Period.
This course is based on the classic book, "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain", by Betty Edwards
